NO 2 : Developing Leadership skills in young people teach valuable Team Work skills
Teamwork is a vital skill we develop from a young age. It’s a skill that requires people to work cooperatively with others in a group towards a shared goal or purpose that is mutually beneficial.
Throughout life we find ourselves working in teams, in adult life, at work, professionally, or younger within clubs, classes and sports, even through play. In each circumstance, we are much more likely to perform well when we work effectively as a team. The reason for this is that excellent teamwork will create synergy – where the combined effect of the team is far greater than the sum of each individual’s efforts.
Working as part of a team will strengthen your child’s social and emotional skills, help develop their communication skills, and can improve confidence which goes a long way to developing their character.
By leading a team we must learn to understand what motivates each member of the team, we learn how to motivate others and how to set and achieve goals. It gives us the ability to inspire other people while also teaching us valuable lessons in working with and using each person’s unique skills and personalities to work together harmoniously.
Teamwork is developed through martial arts despite it being, strictly speaking, an individual sport where self-development is the goal. Students are expected to inspire their partners, motivating them to continue through tough times and work as part of a team to ensure they progress, often the goals we set are personal, but they are achieved quickly by working as part of a team.
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. – African Proverb.
